Visiting us for the first time?

Initial consultation

Your initial consultation at our clinic is designed to put you at ease. Your practitioner will begin the session with a comprehensive discussion about you, your health and the reasons prompting your visit. A thorough examination, including a series of specialised tests, will arrive at a precise diagnosis. Should further investigations, such as blood tests, x-rays, or MRI scans be necessary, we can facilitate the referral process. Following the examination, the proposed treatment plan will be clearly explained including any possible complications. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions before making an informed decision.

Treatment

We recognise the uniqueness of every individual and our approach to treatment reflects this understanding. Holistic treatment is meticulously tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Techniques include adjustments, mobilisation and soft tissue therapies may be used and are aimed at restoring normal joint function. We believe in not just providing treatment during your appointments but empowering you with recommendations for self-care between sessions. This may involve personalised exercises or stretches, posture and ergonomic advice and guidance on the appropriate application of ice or heat.

Rebecca J Willard BSc (Chiro) MSc DC FRCC

Chiropractor

My inspiration to become a chiropractor came from my relatives – there are 12 of us in the family! I pursued my studies at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic and earned my qualification in 1994. Four years later, I founded Wickford Chiropractic Clinic. I moved to Suffolk in 2018 and now run the clinic in Essex as well as Woodbridge Chiropractic Clinic.

Beyond my professional commitments, running friendly and caring clinics is a passion. Chiropractic is a profession where I can use my head, hands and heart to enhance the quality of my patients’ lives. I especially enjoy working with babies and children, seeing the beneficial effect chiropractic has on them is magical.

Alongside my practical experience, I hold a Masters Degree in Paediatric Musculoskeletal Health. I am registered with the General Chiropractic Council, a member of the British Chiropractic Association and I am a Fellow of both the Royal College of Chiropractors and the Royal Society of Medicine.

In addition to my work, I cherish spending time with family and friends. Staying active is a priority and I am relishing my role as a Sea Scout leader.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic treatment focuses on addressing issues within your joints, bones, and muscles, as well as their impact on your nervous system. Chiropractors target all joints in the body, with a special emphasis on the spine. Using their hands, they skillfully perform gentle and specific adjustments (the Chiropractic word for manipulation). These adjustments aim to enhance the efficiency of your nervous system, promoting overall well-being.

Chiropractic is a regulated profession and the title of ‘Chiropractor’ is legally protected. It is a criminal offense for individuals to represent themselves as chiropractors without being registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). The GCC ensures that all chiropractors are adequately qualified and deemed fit to practice.

Jan-Mark Smith D.O M.Ost BSc

Osteopath

I was inspired to pursue a career in osteopathy by having my chronic neck, shoulder pain and headaches successfully treated by an osteopath. Having trained in the UK, I’ve spent time in Singapore and while practising there I worked in chiropractic clinics and I’ve had further training in chiropractic techniques.

I have a Masters degree in osteopathy and I’m dedicating my career to optimising physical performance and recovery. I have provided care for elite athletes, including the Singapore National Climbing Team and Olympic Swimmers, addressing the unique demands of high-performance individuals. I have over 12 years of experience in musculoskeletal health and wellbeing and have a special interest in treating TMJ, headaches and posture-related issues through a combination of adjustments, cranial sacral therapy and dry needling. This comprehensive approach addresses the root causes of these conditions, offering lasting relief and improved quality of life for my patients.

Acupuncturist

Peter Hewitt

My personal journey into Chinese Medicine began about thirty years ago. I was studying and training in martial arts and my Sensei suggested that to balance my active training (Yang), I should learn a constructive skill (Yin). He guided me towards Chinese Medicine and I became fascinated and totally engrossed with the system. I studied for four years with The British School of Shiatsu and this gave me a very good grounding in the basis and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Chinese holistic approach. I then continued my studies and I graduated (first in class) in 2002, achieving my Diploma in Chinese Healthcare and Acupuncture.

I have since been practicing in the Essex area (with Rebecca in the early years) and have previously worked closely in the fields of stroke rehabilitation and multiple sclerosis. My work is varied – acupuncture can be used to treat many conditions: pain (joint, muscular and neuropathic), sports injuries, digestive, hormonal, reproductive and stress or anxiety related issues. It is becoming very widely used for fertility support, reproductive and menopausal problems. In recent years my major area of work has been, and remains, fertility support.

I still very much enjoy practicing and find the simple yet incredibly complex patterns within Chinese Medicine absolutely fascinating. I have retained my passion for the wonderful 3000-year-old system on my journey and hope to continue to do so for years to come.

Outside of clinic, I enjoy spending time with my children and grandchildren. My hobbies are metal detecting and clay shooting and I have a keen interest in local and regional history, especially the Roman period.
